When I started Hip Hop For Love it was nothing more than an idea to help those in my neighborhood stay above the water and bring some great music into their lives at the same time. In doing so, I’ve met some great people along the way who make some beautiful uplifting music, mentor youth in our neighborhood and even help feed and clothe the poor within our city. The journey so far has been a blessing, but I don’t want it to stop there. Over the last few months I’ve wanted to engage in a movement that would help change lives on a larger scale and after researching plenty of organizations I came across one movement that reflected that very thing.
The organization is called charity: water, and it was started only 5 years ago when a dedicated few saw how millions of people walked miles every day just to fetch a drink of water out of dirty waterholes and disease infested puddles. They saw children skip primary school to lug 40-pound Jerry cans on their backs and family members who tried to nurse their brothers and sisters back to health after a waterborne illness had infected them.
And though I still want to continue my efforts locally to improve my hometown, it pales in comparison to what millions of people do just to stay alive.
So Hip Hop For Love wants to help by dedicating the rest of this year to helping charity: water feed 80,000 more people by purchasing a new drilling rig so they can continue to bring clean drinking water to those who need it most. My mission is to raise $5,000 in the next three months. So I’m asking Hip Hop For Love followers to help me reach that goal by donating any little cash you can. It doesn’t have to be much, if $1 is all you have to give then that’s $1 closer to feeding 80,000 people clean drinking water! But if we can get 325 people to donate just $15 each we will have reached our goal in no time and hopefully surpass it instead. Every penny you give will go straight to building water projects in developing nations and changing lives.
And once we succeed, we’ll be able to see the community we impacted when the projects we funded are complete!
